It can take some time to recover from the stress of moving house so it’s no surprise that a new homeowner wants to spend a while settling in before taking on any new home-related tasks. However, the sooner you put together a schedule of regular home maintenance the better, why is that?
Why is having a good home maintenance routine important? Because, as any home inspector will tell you, by taking care of issues while they are still small, you will prevent them from becoming much larger problems in the future. As well as saving you a lot of money, it will also help to keep your home running as smoothly as possible.
What are some things to include on your list of maintenance tasks? Cleaning out gutters and downspouts, trimming hedges and trees, light painting, and power washing are just a few of the jobs you can add to your list. There are, of course, many more to add to that list but it should give you some idea of what to include. Another task you will need to take care of as soon as possible, especially if you have moved far from your previous home, is to compile a list of trustworthy contractors in the area. You never know when you will need to call out an electrician or plumber, etc. in an emergency so having the list already will help to address the problem quickly.
It can also be helpful to schedule your annual inspections for things like the HVAC system and boiler ahead of time. If you have just moved into your home then the home will have been recently inspected but it is a good idea to add a yearly home inspection to the list as well as this will ensure you have done all you can to keep your new home in optimal condition.
