Mold spores are the cause of many health problems today. One area where mold has the potential to thrive is carpet. Although there are some ways to treat it, preventing it altogether is a much better option. So, what are some ways to do this?
Although many of us love to feel a soft, warm carpet under our feet, there are some areas of the home that should not really have it if you want to avoid mold. Mold will thrive in a warm, humid environment which means some rooms in the house such as the bathroom and basement (if it is damp) would not be good places to install carpet.
Another way to avoid mold in your carpet is to choose a high quality, solid padding with antimicrobial properties for underneath the carpet.
As we have mentioned, mold loves a damp environment. To prevent mold from forming, make sure you clean up any spills or water from the carpet immediately. To dry the carpet thoroughly, you will need to ensure that the under carpet padding as well as the floor under that is completely dry as well.
Carpets will need to be cleaned once in a while. If it is possible, select a dry method of cleaning the carpet. It that is not possible, and you need to use water, again, make sure that not only the carpet is completely dry but all under carpet flooring is thoroughly dry also.
Taking good care of your carpeting and being selective about where to install it, will help you to avoid mold growth forming and will keep it a safe environment for the family.
